Rock of Ages Sets Moving Dates

Rock of Ages, the very popular '80s hair band musical that was a Tony-nominated best musical a few years back has set moving dates in a story related to a series of moves I reported on earlier.  The show closed Sunday at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre and is moving to the Helen Hayes where Colin Quinn's one man comedy act is currently playing (and has recently extended for a second time).  Broadway.com is now reporting that Rock of Ages will reopen at the Hayes on March 24th after Colin Quinn moves out on March 5th.

The reason for all this musical chairs began when the Beatles-themed concert/musical, Rin, turned out to be more popular than expected.  That show, currently playing at the Neil Simon Theatre, was supposed to be a limited run and was going to move out in time for the upcoming screen-to-stage musical Catch Me If You Can to move in.  Once Rain became popular and the producers wanted to extend the show, however, the series of musical chairs began.  Rain is now moving into the Brooks Atkinson, causing Rock of Ages to have to move somewhere, with the Helen Hayes Theatre being the best bet based on size and availability.
