Merchant of Venice Repays its Loans

Variety.com has reported that the current revival of The Merchant of Venice, starring Al Pacino and Lily Rabe, has recouped its $3.45 million initial financial investment.  Al Pacino's star power and the show's great reviews have propelled the show into great popularity and large box office receipts, pulling in over $1 million per week for seven of the show's ten weeks on Broadway, after the show's summer run at the Public Theatre in Central Park.  The show will be going on hiatus for three weeks based on a previous film commitment for Al Pacino and will return for three weeks beginning February 1st.  Any ticket sales that come in for those three weeks of performances will entirely represent profit, after only weekly running costs are taken out.
