Barbara Streisand as Mama Rose?

Barbara Streisand is in talks to produce and star in a new film version of Gypsy.  According to the New York Post, the talks are pretty far along, going so far as to suggest that Streisand may have wanted to direct, but that the show's book writer, Arthur Laurents, has stated that "playing Rose is enough to make her happy."  Rose is an iconic role that has been played on Broadway by Ethel Merman, Angela Lansbury, Tyne Daly, Bernadette Peters, and Patti LuPone, on Television by Bette Middler, and in the 1962 film by Rosalind Russell.
